On the mic: Christian Eigner

On the mic: Christian Eigner

We welcome fellow Austrian Christian Eigner to this episode of ON THE MIC!

Christian is a drummer, studio musician, composer and producer. He joined electronic pop icons Depeche Mode in 1997 and has been part of the band ever since. With Depeche Mode, he embarked on six globe-crossing tours, and co-wrote songs, including “Cover Me,” “Poison Heart,” “Hole to Feed” and the Grammy-nominated “Suffer Well” from the album, Playing the Angel. Today, he works in his studio in Vienna on recording sessions, he’s writing and producing, and also doing some film scoring. He’s looking forward to a number of solo drum club concerts that he has lined up for the fall. We met up with Christian in his studio, and, as expected, it’s a NICE studio

Christian says about his gear: “If I didn’t love it, it wouldn’t be in here. I only want to have things in here that I am really using all the time. The great thing about my studio is, I have 3 drum kits constantly miked up and ready to go. It all goes into one recording session. Even within a song, I can choose between drum kits.” Christian shares his opinion on the importance of microphones, and gives us some tips on miking drum kits. What can we say? We’re fans!
