For any live sound engineer, the search for the perfect microphone is a never-ending journey. Every show, every venue, and every artist presents new challenges that demand precision, adaptability, and above all – sonic excellence.
I’m Momčilo Timotijević, a live sound engineer from Serbia. Over the years, my career has taken me from intimate club settings to massive arena tours, working with some of Serbia’s biggest stars. No matter the scale, my goal remains the same: to craft the best possible sound experience for both artists and audiences alike. That pursuit led me to Austrian Audio, and I haven’t looked back since.

A Revelation in Sound – The OC818
When I first encountered the Austrian Audio OC818, I was stunned. The natural, transparent character of this microphone was unlike anything I had worked with before. The high end is detailed and open, allowing for a crisp yet smooth presence in my mixes. Equally impressive is its ability to capture the low end with remarkable precision, offering clarity and depth that translates exceptionally well in live environments.

One of the biggest game-changers for me was using the OC818 as an overhead mic for drums. The level of detail it captures on cymbals is simply outstanding – adding dimension and air without introducing unwanted harshness. Whether in a controlled studio setting or on a roaring festival stage, this microphone delivers a level of clarity that elevates the entire drum mix.

The OC7 – A Workhorse for Percussion & Guitars
While the OC818 blew me away, the Austrian Audio OC7 quickly became another go-to in my Peli case. Designed with live performance in mind, this small-diaphragm condenser microphone is one of the best tools I’ve ever used for percussive elements, toms, and guitar cabinets.
Percussion is at the heart of Serbian folk music, and finding a microphone that accurately captures the rich tonal characteristics of traditional drums has always been a challenge – until now. The OC7 handles transients beautifully, ensuring that every percussive hit cuts through the mix while still sounding full-bodied and natural. When placed on toms, it brings out the depth and presence that make each hit feel dynamic and alive. The same goes for guitar cabs – the OC7 captures the essence of an amplifier’s tone with incredible detail, maintaining warmth and clarity without compromise.

The Austrian Audio Difference
Austrian Audio has redefined my expectations of what live microphones can achieve. Their precision engineering and sonic craftsmanship have given me tools that enhance my ability to deliver outstanding live mixes, night after night. From the open and airy highs of the OC818 to the transient precision of the OC7, these mics have earned their place in my setup.
I’m excited to hear how other engineers are using these microphones in their live rigs. The best thing about brand new gear is the opportunity to share thoughts and experience with all Austrian Audio engineering pioneers, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
