The Austrian Audio PolarPilot app turns your smartphone (iOS or Android) into a full-featured remote control for the OC818 large-diaphragm condenser microphone. Simply insert the OCR8 dongle into the microphone, pair it with your phone over Bluetooth, and you’re ready to go. Using this powerful free app, you can manipulate the OC818’s polar patterns and other functions all in real time and without so much as leaving your chair.
Full Control, Pure Analogue
From the PolarPilot app, you can dial in your choice of polar patterns on the OC818, choosing from among 255 discrete possibilities, on a spectrum from omni all the way to figure-eight, including many cardioid and hypercardioid options.
In addition to managing polar pattern choices, PolarPilot also allows you to remotely adjust the microphone’s switchable high-pass filter (with 40, 80, and 160 Hz options) and activate one of two pad options (-10 and –20 dB).
All your customized settings can be saved, recalled, and shared. You can even assign one custom setting to a physical switch on the OC818 for use when the PolarPilot isn’t connected.
A handy clipping monitor shows visual evidence of overloading in the last sixty seconds, and you can access a log showing all incidents of clipping, times-stamped for your convenience.
The PolarPilot’s digital controls operate separately from the OC818’s signal pathways. The OC818 audio and bias paths remain purely analogue.
